Key Stage 2 Inter-house football tournament 2019

The International School of Samui primary footballers have recently completed the KS2 team-sports competition for term 2. The first one -- held in November 2018 where the students played handball and basketball -- was a spectacular show of sportsmanship and teamwork. Darwin House were the proud term 1 cup winners for handball, whilst Einstein secured the title as the strongest basketball team amongst primary students.

This time, spectators were all excited to see which Houses were going to bring home the bacon. The event consisted of three matches: (1) girls' tournament; (2) Group A boys' tournament; and (3) Group B boys' tournament.

For the latest competition the onus was on the students to volunteer if they wished to take part in the event and they had to sign themselves up to compete for their houses. The following students must be congratulated for their efforts and commitment to this event.

For the boys' category, group A gave everyone watching intense matches with passionate footballers giving it their 100% to bring home the cup. Darwin and Einstein both won their matches against Newton.

The finale, which was literally a battle for the cup between Darwin and Einstein ended in a draw! Einstein almost got it, however, Darwin swooped into victory by points having scored 5 goals as opposed to Einstein's 3 goals.

Together with their victory in the handball competition, this is Darwin's third cup for the academic year. Way to go Darwin!!!

Mr Andrewartha has also named the "Players of the tournament" for this event, as follows:

Girls' category: Lou (year 6)

Boys' category (Group A): Jacob (year 5)

Boys' category (Group B): Tao (year 4)

This was a truly successful event organised by Mr Andrewartha. It gave all our students the opportunity to play football, especially those who are not part of the school football team. To some children, they probably discovered a new passion, and for those who are already football fanatics, another great opportunity to practice and show true sportsmanship. Thank you Mr Andrewartha and also to all the parents who cheered with us on this wonderful afternoon!
