Senior School: The Importance of Being Earnest

Written by: Oscar Wilde; Performed by ISS Senior School students

30th March 2018. This date was marked special thanks to our annual drama performance from the International School of Samui Senior School department. It was the day when the students, teachers and support staff saw all their hard work -- weekend rehearsals, props and music preparation come to fruition. And finally we all found out "The Importance of Being Earnest".

"The Importance of Being Earnest" is a play written by the famous Irish playwright, Oscar Wilde, which primarily ridicules the importance of wealth, love and identity.

When asked why Mr Campbell (Senior School English teacher) chose this play for this year's show, he responded:

"Because it is a great comedy from one of the greatest playwrights, and even though this comedy is from the late 19th Century, the wit, humour and banter is still comic today."

Our Senior School used their creativity to produce a performance that follows the original story line, but has its own twists. The ISS performance had a 1970s Punk Rock theme with great costumes, make up, stage design, and live music. The students also proved their versatility with cross-dressing roles.

Overall, it was a challenging project for everyone, which the entire Senior School production team has conquered. The tickets were sold out, and most important of all, it was clear that the senior students enjoyed their performance as well as the audience.
