Congratulations to Phoenix, who beat Pegasus into second place to win this year’s spelling bee in an electrically charged final.
The final is the culmination of several weeks of qualifying rounds, and the winners can be proud of both their muscle memory, and spelling talent, as the competition challenges them with both known and unseen words.
Special mention goes to Matt in Year 4 who demonstrated the benefits of reading, as he managed to spell the word ‘squawk’ in the unseen words round. It turns out that Matt is an avid reader of bird books!
Thanks to all those parents who attended the event today, and special thanks to Mr Hawkes who presides over such a closely fought event every year.
