Sixth Form at ISS

17 - 18 Years Old

The Sixth Form at ISS offers internationally recognised Cambridge International and Pearson EdExcel AS and A Level courses, alongside Pearson BTEC Level 3 vocational awards, leading to direct University entry.

We are the only school on Koh Samui to offer a full Sixth Form timetable of live AS and A Level lessons thanks to our exclusive partnership with Kings Interhigh. These courses are available in 12 subjects*, taught in real time by Kings Interhigh’s subject specialist teachers. Lessons are fully interactive, mixing traditional live teaching online, and collaborative group activities with other students from all over the Asia Pacific region, thanks to cutting-edge technologies in the online classroom. Students also have access to round-the-clock recordings of their lessons, plus revision guidance and workshops, fully supporting them to take on their exams with confidence.

*Biology - Chemistry - Physics - Economics - Mathematics - Computer Science - Business - Psychology - English Literature - English Language - Geography - History

There are a 7 additional subjects available that students can choose from as a tutor-guided self-study course:

Classical Studies - Further Maths - History of Art - Politics - AS English General Paper - AS Thinking Skills - Sociology

Art & Design courses (e.g. OCAD Foundation Diploma) may also be taken in place of one A Level subject.

BTEC Level 3 Qualifications

BTEC Level 3 courses are also available in Travel and Tourism and Sport. These are vocational (work related) alternatives to AS and A Levels, and are fully taught at ISS, by subject-qualified, experienced full-time staff. BTEC progress and achievement are assessed regularly during the course, so these courses do not require final examinations on completion, and previous BTEC study is not required.

Examinations

ISS is a Cambridge Assessment and Pearson Edexcel registered exam centre. Given our international status, students have the option to ‘stage’ their examinations (sit AS Level exams in Year 12), or sit both AS and AL exams in Year 13.

University / Careers Counselling

All Sixth Form students have regular one-to-one meetings for careers and university advice with our experienced Head of Sixth Form. Each student is registered with Unifrog to research international university and careers options and scholarship opportunities, and develop a portfolio of relevant activities and experiences, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award. University applications are closely monitored by the Head of Sixth Form, and application documentation fully supported by our teaching staff and admissions department, including via central admissions systems such as UCAS (UK), TCAS (Thailand) and Common App (USA).

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award

Sixth Form students have the opportunity to take part in the The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, comprising volunteering, physical skills and participation in a residential activity. This takes place over a two-year period, leading to an internationally recognised award which is highly valued by universities and employers alike.

Sixth Form Life

All ISS Sixth Form students benefit from full inclusion in the school community as part of the wider ISS Senior School. They are assigned a go-to member of staff as their form tutor to oversee their pastoral care, and have access to the school’s staff and outstanding facilities, with regular Team Sports and Physical education, PSHE and Thai Culture lessons. Many Sixth Form students organise and lead their own extra-curricular activities, and all have access to our wide and ever changing range of free clubs and activities, and private on-site music lessons.
